PROGRAMMES
REQUEST SHOW
The request show is our most listened to programme. Music is chosen by the listener immediately before broadcast. Each day we visit two wards and find out what records everyone would like played. Our younger listeners have their very own request programme on a Sunday morning called Kids AM.

CHAPEL SERVICE
Each Sunday between 11.00am and 11.30am we broadcast the Chapel Service LIVE to listeners in the Colchester General hospital and the Essex County Hospital. This provides a valuable link to the chaplains in the hospital and enables those people who are not well enough or mobile enough to get the Chapel to participate in the service.

LOCAL NEWS
Local News is broadcast each weekday at 7pm.  This is carried out with the help of the local newspaper, the Evening Gazette which provides the news for the bulletin. The news team select stories and then adapt and re-script them to a form where they can be used in radio whilst keeping the information that was presented in the newspaper. Each bulletin lasts for three minutes and will normally cover around six local stories.

GARDENING
Each month we have a visit from Jim Pearce, the Hospital Radio Colchester Gardener. Jim brings us up-to-date with what should be going on in the garden and also gives special advice to those in hospital who may have been brought house plants by friends or family. Jim also writes the weekly column in the local newspaper, the Essex County Standard.

MUSIC
Programmes include a variety of music and speech.  Musically we cover a wide spectrum of tastes - you can expect to hear music from the 60s, 70s, country, easy listening, 50s, classical (with the help of Chandos), rock'n'roll and big band to name just a few.  On the speech side we provide regular news bulletins (both national and local), interviews, quizzes and interesting features.

FOOTBALL
Hospital Radio Colchester has been bringing programmes from Layer Road, home of Colchester United since 1953. You can still hear all home matches covered in full on Hospital Radio Colchester. We also run an audio feed to seats in the main stand for blind supporters.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
At 9pm each weekday evening we have a pause in our programmes for 'Thought for the Day'. We have a variety of different guests from the chaplains and hospital staff. Each three minute thought leaves the listener with something poignant to think about.

MERCURY THEATRE
We regularly review plays and events that take place at the Mercury Theatre. A review is then broadcast on Hospital Radio Colchester.  Some special events are also broadcast LIVE.

MERSEA ISLAND DISCS
Each Thursday evening Penney McAvoy has a special guest in the studio and they are asked to pick three records they would choose if they were stuck on Mersea Island with the tide over the Strood.
