As part of Hospital Radio Colchester's "Listener Power" project a decision has been made to extend our broadcasting hours such that more patients can benefit from our service. Ultimately the plan is to broadcast 24 hours a day and to do this we need the help of modern computer technology.
After an extensive evaluation of more than 20 PC based radio automation systems, with prices ranging from under £100 to several thousand pounds, we have recently purchased the DRS2006 Radio Automation Software (v2.1 Professional) www.drs2006.com
The main reasons for choosing this software were.
- Ease of use
- Features
- Value for money
Another key factor in our decision was the extra features that will be available in the next release (V3) of the software.
Along with a new PC the software is currently being installed in our studios and will initially be used to broadcast jingles, promos and a few pre-recorded programmes. The new software will replace our current PC playout software CABAN.
During the spring and autumn extensive training will take place for all our members and at the same time we will be starting to use the software to extend our broadcasting hours, initially over the weekend.
