Fireman in Studio to Talk about Fire Swim 2008
5th October 2008

Colchester based fireman Kevin Lay from The Colchester Fire Swim Committee popped in to South Lodge on Monday 29th September to tell our listeners all about the Colchester Fire Swim.

Andy Thompson interviewed him about the event, where, for the past 11 years, Hospital Radio has provided a 24 hour Roadshow.

Kevin explained how Hospital Radio Colchester’s involvement makes all the difference, “the continuous music keeps us happy and contributes to the great atmosphere”, he added, “everyone enjoys putting in requests for their favourite songs, especially the children!”

As well as providing music to motivate the hard-working swimmers, Hospital Radio Colchester also plays a part in the timings of the day. Each hour volunteers start the relay teams off, collect scores, then give a countdown until the hour finishes. Throughout the event there are regular updates on how much each team raises and how many lengths have been swum.

Some of the volunteers swapped headphones for swimming caps as our own relay team swam from 5-6pm on Saturday evening.
