Last Broadcast from Layer Road
26th April 2008
This Saturday (26th April) Colchester United will be playing their last ever league football match at Layer Road when the U's take on Stoke City in front of a sell out crowd.
To commemorate this historic event Hospital Radio Colchester are presenting a special outside broadcast live from the ground starting at midday. Throughout the afternoon we will capture the atmosphere of the event and relay it to patients in Colchester General Hospital. As well as providing full commentary on the final match the programme will also feature interviews with players & staff from the club along with memories of the past 70 years from fans young and old.
We are looking to talk to as many fans as possible during the afternoon and are appealing to fans to drop by our outside broadcast van which will be located near to the main ticket office either before or after the match.
Hospital Radio Colchester and Colchester United have very close ties, in fact it was members of the U's supporters club who started the radio service in Colchester back in 1953. Since then we have broadcast full commentary of all Colchester United home matches to patients in the towns hospitals.
One of our commentators, Godfrey Thomas, has been commentating for the past 50 years and we will be marking Godfrey's achievement with a presentation on the pitch at around 2.30pm.
